The last such commission, famously known as 7th pay commission, was set up in 2015 and it gave its recommendations in the same year. The recommendations of the commission got enforced with effect from 01-January-2016 and the salary of the employees witnessed a decent hike.

What is 8th Pay Commission Fitment Factor
Fitment factor is a factor that is multiplied to your basic pay at the time of enforcement of a pay commission recommendations. If a fitment factor is 2, it means your basic way will become twice, and if it is three, then your basic pay will become thrice.
The fitment factor given by 6th pay commission was 1.57. It means that the basic pay of each employee became 1.57 times his last basic pay after the commencement of 6th pay commission.
Similarly, the fitment factor given by 7th pay commission was 2.57. It means that the basic pay of each employee became 2.57 times his last basic pay after the commencement of 7th pay commission.

8th Pay Commission vs 7th Pay Commission
The seventh pay commission recommendations came into effect on 01-January-2016 and the recommendations of the 8th pay commission will come into force on 01-January-2026.
The 7th pay commission gave a fitment factor of 2.57, while the 8th pay commission is likely to introduce a fitment factor of 2.86. If it occurs, then this pay commission is going to be better than the 7th pay commission as it will hike the salary more than what had happened in 2016.
The real pay hike the 7th pay commission offered was just 14%, and the minimum salary was changed to ₹18000 from ₹7000. However with a fitment factor of 2.86, the minimum salary will change to ₹51,480 from ₹18000.
